Summer may be almost over, but there’s still plenty of festivals happening throughout August and September. Before you don your wellies and head off to V Festival, Leeds or Reading Festival or Bestival, make sure you have everything you need with at home’s festival checklist…
Whether you’re a festival pro, or a festival virgin, it’s easy to forget to pack something but our guide should help you on your way. If you have any other suggestions, feel free to leave a comment and tell us!
The absolute must-haves
Before you head out the door, double check that you’ve got;
- Tickets
- ID
- Directions
- Money and cash cards
The backpack basics
- Tent, sleeping bag and pillow, roll mat
The bare necessities if you’re camping at a festival!
- Raincoats and wellies
The great British summer is full of surprises so be prepared for rain and mud.
- Sunglasses and hat (and suncream!)
…but if you’re lucky enough, you might get sunshine and blue skies!
- Extra clothes and shoes
Always pack enough clothes, especially in case of any muddy mis-haps.
- Camera and phone
Remember to fully charge both of these for your festival snaps/to call your friends if you lose them.
- Torch
Essential for finding your tent at night and avoiding tripping up over those pesky tent ropes.
- Toilet roll
The toilet facilities at festivals usually run out such essentials, so bring your own!
- Bin liners
Perfect for dirty clothes (especially if they’re wet and/or muddy!) and rubbish.
Toiletries
- Make-up
- Hair brush/comb
- Deodorant
- Toothbrush and toothpaste
- Small mirror
- Glasses/contact lenses and solution
- Wet wipes and anti-bacterial hand gel
These will become your two best friends, we promise. - Soap, shampoo and conditioner, towel
Most festivals do have shower facilities for those wanting a quick wash… - Dry shampoo
…but if you’re not brave enough to go venture inside porta showers, a quick spray of this stuff will keep your hair looking (and smelling!) fresh.
- Medicine and first aid kits
Pack paracetemol, anti-histamines and any prescription medicines. Plasters and bandages will come in handy for any little accidents.
Other important bits and bobs
- Food and drink
There’s plenty of food and drink stalls at festivals, but taking a few sandwiches, energy bars, pot noodles and drinks in plastic bottles is a good idea both to save money and to keep you going.
- Cooking equipment and lighters/matches
If you’re making your making your own summer festival grub, these are essential! Don’t forget to bring disposable cutlery and bottle and tin openers as well.
- Blanket and folding chairs
Great for sitting outside your tent, enjoying a bit of food, drink and conversation (and hopefully, the sunshine!)
Are you off to a festival soon? at home will be at V Festival in Weston Park, Staffordshire this weekend – hope to see you there!
