Chilled red wine, Sunday roasts, fast cars and cordless screwdrivers... Handy Andy Kane reveals his all-time favourite things.
My favourite book
I'm not really a bookie sort of person. However, I have just bought Underground London: Travels Beneath the City by Stephen Smith (Littlebrown, £17.99), which is about hidden parts of London. Did you know that in Eastcheap, in the City of London, there's an NCP car park which is built next to a Roman wall?
And the reason there's no tube station in a well-known part of north-west London is because the Black Death victims are buried there and the virus is as dangerous now as it was all those centuries ago. In fact, there are lots of old plague pits dotted all over central London. I like books like this, packed with interesting information about places that I know.
my favourite film
Enemy of the State, with Gene Hackman and Will Smith, which came out a few years ago. It's a hi-tech film about American politicians. Someone sees someone being murdered and it goes on from there. The plot is SO good! The actors play it so well and although it's a serious film there's some humour in there as well.
I also think Midnight Express was a top film in its day and I've watched it again and again. Last of the Mohicans with Daniel Day Lewis is a brilliant film - and I like all the Clint Eastwood spaghetti Westerns. I've just seen Steve McQueen in Bullit and he was one cool guy.
My favourite football team
I'm a South London boy, born and bred, so I'm a Millwall supporter. I'm a huge fan of England, too, but I haven't been to any matches this year. I've been so busy with Changing Rooms and other things that it's been hard to find the time.
I'm also a huge boxing fan. I like the lightweight and welterweight stuff, not the heavyweight fights. My dad always watched boxing and I remember watching with him and seeing people like Alan Minter back in the 1970s. We have some phenomenal British boxers now. My dream would be to go to Las Vegas to see someone like Ricky Hatton fight.
My favourite car
If I could have any car in the world I would have a Lister le Mans, which is a souped-up Jaguar. It's just such a fantastic machine.
My favourite holiday
Either Spain or Majorca are my favourite holiday destinations because they're so easy to get to. We can't go too far away with the kids being so young. We've bought a place in Spain so we know we can always go there. In fact we wanted to go last Christmas but the air fares were incredibly high and with six of us it really was going to cost us daft amounts of money, so we decided to stay at home instead.
Having said that, last year we did go to Orlando in Florida with the kids because I wanted to take them to Disneyworld. It was great for them and the weather was perfect - in fact, it was August and it was a bit too hot!
I love America and I would love to work there if I got the chance. A couple of years ago I went to New York with my wife Geraldine, and that was brilliant. We took seven hours to fly over on a Jumbo jet and then just three to come back on Concorde.
my favourite changing rooms designer
I've said it before and I'll say it again - it's Graham Wynne. He's my favourite because I love his style and his way of doing things.
my favourite drink
It has to be lager or beer. I used to love my Becks and my Stella but now I drink this organic beer called Honeybee, which is made by Fullers. It's beautiful - a bit sweet - and it isn't full of gas and chemicals. And as with red wine, I like it really chilled. I whack it in the freezer and drink it when it's icy cold.
my favourite food
It has to be a Sunday roast. I love my roasts, I'm very traditional at heart. My favourite of the lot - and it's a hard choice - has to be roast beef. A nice bit of beef with Yorkshire puddings - the puffed up ones, not the slabby puds, because the gravy lies on them better - with roast potatoes.
My wife Geraldine makes a mean roast potato. With my roast beef I like all the vegetables - peas, carrots, cabbage, swede, and just a little bit of horseradish. I'm not overly keen on English mustard.
To go with my Sunday roast I like a nice glass of red wine. At the moment we've got some South African Merlot on the go which is very nice. The strange thing with me, though, is I like my red wine chilled instead of, as it's supposed to be served, at room temperature. I don't know why. I pop it in the fridge half an hour before I want to drink it - and it's delicious!
