I married a footballer...

These lovely ladies all netted a footballer – we take a look at how they scored!

Sheree Murphy and Harry Kewell
Sheree and Harry met back in 1998 when he played for Leeds United and she was starring as Tricia Stokes in Emmerdale. But, rather than being drawn to each other because they were both rich and famous, neither had the foggiest idea who the other one was. It was in a tacky club in Leeds, Sheree says: ‘He told me he was a builder – I don’t know why. He always tells little white lies and I always believe him. I didn’t have a clue who he was. I knew nothing about Leeds United and he didn’t watch Emmerdale – although he soon became a fan. He was starting out on the main team and I was just starting out in Emmerdale, so we went through everything together.’

In May 2003, six months after the birth of their first child, son Taylor, the couple high-tailed it to Las Vegas to make things official.

The location was the Little Church of the West, a cosy, 50ft-long chapel that had also seen the nuptials of Richard Gere and Cindy Crawford, Noel Gallagher and Meg Mathews and Chris Evans and Billie Piper.

Just 25 guests, including Sheree’s family, Harry’s Aussie relatives and his ex-Leeds teammate Warren Feeney were invited to the 20-minute ceremony, arriving in a fleet of limos. Sheree, in a traditional white wedding gown, arrived ten minutes late in a car with the registration plate ‘Candle 1’.

After the vows, the wedding party celebrated with a champagne reception at the Venetian hotel, where the couple stayed in a suite, and after a few days partying in the gambling capital, the newlyweds flew off to Fiji on honeymoon.

And it seems that the honeymoon still isn’t over. ‘We’re so loved up. I never thought I’d find Mr Right but I really did,’ she says. ‘We’ve always fancied and liked one another. We still make each other laugh. Honestly, I can appreciate good looking people but no one compares to Harry.’ Bless!

Cheryl and Ashley Cole
The most-talked about celeb wedding since Posh and Becks’ extravagant 1999 affair took place in June 2006, after Ashley Cole proposed to his popstar missus while on holiday in sunny Dubai. The Arsenal star went down on one knee after whisking Cheryl off on a camel ride across the sand dunes, cementing the deal with a stunning £50,000 sparkler.

They then landed a £1 million deal with OK! Magazine and the obligatory confidentiality agreement was drawn up – including a clause stating that guests must not ask famous people for autographs. It was all so secretive, friends and family even had to call a hotline to find out where they were supposed to go.

As it turned out, the venue was Wrotham Park, a stately home in Hertfordshire, and the 150 guests included Cheryl’s Girls Aloud bandmates as bridesmaids, as well as Sugababes singer Keisha Buchanan. On Ashley’s side, famous guests included England teammates Joe Cole, John Terry, Jermain Defoe, Shaun Wright-Phillips and Sol Campbell. Posh and Becks, however, were notable by their absence, sunning themselves on holiday in Marbella.

Their influence over proceedings was still felt, though – the dramatic flowers were by Simon J Lycett, who designed the arrangements for the Beckham wedding, and the £3,000 wedding cake was made by the Little Venice Cake Company, who also made David’s 30th birthday cake.

The bride arrived in a white horse drawn carriage – with blacked-out windows, of course – and wore a £100,000 Roberto Cavalli gown covered in glittering Swarovski crystals.

The groom wore a champagne coloured suit, and the bridesmaids – in fuschia silk dresses – walked down the aisle behind Cheryl as a gospel choir played. The guests then partied in a 500ft marquee in the grounds of the mansion. Bling bling, indeed.

Louise and Jamie Redknapp
All rather low-key, as footballer’s weddings go, Jamie Redknapp and pop star-turned-TV presenter Louise Nurding shunned the OTT bling and opted for getting away from it all when they wed in July 1998.

The couple, who were old friends and dated for two years before they decided to make it official, jetted off to Bermuda with 20 family and friends. But while it was a small do, that footballer’s salary came in useful as the pair exchanged vows on a luxury yacht after arriving in separate horse-drawn carriages. Louise wore a cream off-the-shoulder knee length dress – no meringues here – while her groom dressed in a black safari suit.

They sailed out to sea on the 130-ft cruiser, Lady Tamara for an hour-long ceremony, and then went for a nice dip. ‘Jamie and I are both very laid back. We didn’t want a big old posh wedding,’ says Louise. ‘It was very simple. We said our vows and within half an hour we were in our swimming costumes having a beer in the sea.’

Julie and Phil Neville
When Julie Killilea married ex-England defender Phil Neville in 2000, after two years of dating and a Valentine’s Day proposal, the inevitable consensus among the public was that she’d had to settle for second best. For Julie used to go out with one of her new husband’s ex-team mates – a certain David Beckham. And Becks, along with his new wife Victoria, were on hand to help the couple celebrate when they wed at the St James-the-Less Roman Catholic church in Rawtenstall, Lancashire – near the bride’s family home.

They also managed to outshine the bride and groom – OK! Magazine, who were covering the wedding (for substantially less than the Beckhams nuptials, we’ll bet) even introduced it as ‘David and Victoria sharing the joy of Phil and Julie Neville’.

They weren’t the only famous faces in attendance – Man Utd boss Alex Ferguson was there, as was Phil’s teammate Paul Scholes, and, of course, his older brother Gary, who arrived with their parents Jill and Neville (yes, his name really is Neville Neville).

The dress code was Man Utd’s colours of red, black and white (Posh chose to wear a brown lacy number instead) and the groom wore a dark red 60s suit with matching waistcoat and red tie. Bridesmaids were Julie’s sister Amanda and Phil’s sister Tracey. After the bling-free Catholic service, the 300 guests went to a local five-star hotel for the reception.

Jadene and Marc Bircham
She recently found fame as one of the footballers’ wives trying their hand at an honest day’s work in clothes shop Better Half,on ITV’s WAGs Boutique. He, meanwhile, is a defender for Queens Park Rangers (QPR). The pair met eight years ago on a TV show called Pulling Power, and they married in 2002 (three years after the birth of their first child, Sonny) in Cyprus. Jadene – who recently announced on the show that she is pregnant with their third child – and her family are big Chelsea supporters so, when the couple wed, Marc had it written in to their wedding vows that she could no longer support Chelsea as she was marrying a (then) Millwall player.
Yes, really!

Love matches that didn’t last the full 90 minutes

Danielle Lloyd and Teddy Sheringham
After her bullying antics on Celebrity Big Brother, Danielle was binned by her bloke. The disgraced Miss GB went off to have a long, hard think on holiday in Dubai, came back, they got back together for about another five minutes and then he dumped her again. That’ll teach her.

WAGS Boutique star Cassie Sumner and Michael Essien
She was publicly humiliated on WAGs Boutique when
Chelsea star Michael denied he’d been dating her (she could have been sacked, what with not actually having official WAG status), but she’s wasted no time in finding a replacement – she’s now seeing his former Chelsea teammate Carlton Cole.

Gary and Michelle Lineker
The childhood sweethearts split last year after 20 years of marriage. Michelle was granted a quickie divorce and got to keep the £2 million family home. Gary was then spotted sunbathing with a ‘wealthy topless brunette’. The swine.
