Charlie's Foreword

It's been a busy year - as usual. I've spent time in America filming for CBS The Early Show and bringing Ground Force stateside. I've also been doing the last series of Ground Force at home. After eight years Tommy and I have decided it's enough, and time to move onto other things. But we are doing a special Ground Force that will be on TV almost when this magazine hits the stands.

One of the most rewarding times has been my involvement in the charity Dream Flights that takes children who are ill, often terminally, on holiday without their parents for two weeks to Disney in Florida. It's been one of the most tear-jerking and wonderful things I've ever done.

Spring is definitely in the air, so let's hope there are no more cold spells to slow down the essential work to be done such as potting, planting and pruning.

This year I'm particularly looking forward to the new format of the Chelsea Flower Show - there is an extra day which will be hard work for the exhibitors but great that more people will be able to see their magnificent efforts. I am constantly surprised and amazed by the talent when it comes to gardens in Britain. I'm sure this year will be no different.

I started gardening when I was very young, encouraged by my grandfather. So that lots of children can do the same I've been involved in bringing an inspiring and creative gardening project called Mucky Hands into production.

If you want to find out more read on. But for now get outside and enjoy the milder weather!

Happy Gardening
