Demi Moore, Babs Windsor and Susan Sarandon all have one thing in common - a younger man. But what is the attraction of an older woman and is it as popular as Hollywood makes out?

What's the attraction?

As soon as men are old enough to know what women are their fascination with older women begins. The main reason for this is that they find older women attractive. Although the media portrays the twenty-something as the sort of women younger men should go for, they have realised that older is sexier.

A male perspective

'My wife was 38 when I met her two years ago and she definitely blossomed into a gorgeous sex bomb as she got older' says 34-year-old Jason, an architect from Manchester.

For women the attraction is the settled qualities in young men. Ashton Kutcher although younger has an old head on young shoulders.

For men it's all about the fact that many older women are comfortable in their own skin. She doesn't need constant reassurance on her looks.

'My older girlfriend says she finds my boyishness charming. It takes the pressure off me when I don't have to always take the lead,' says 31-year-old Doug, a sales executive from Dorset.

Experience and intensity

Older women have experience in matters of the head and heart. They can offer advice to a younger man on how to conduct themselves or their next career move. As they have seen it all before they are able to nurture the growth of their partner but without being commanding. For many younger men this is seen as exciting.

Sexual peaks

As men are said to reach their sexual peak when they're younger and women when they're older, you can certainly see the attraction. An older woman knows what she wants when it comes to sex and is more assertive. Younger men are often drawn towards this promise.
