Instagram sold to Facebook
Instagram – that great little app 30 million users are currently relying on to flood the internet with photo’s tinted to Polaroid-style sepia perfection, was sold to social networking site Facebook for $1billion (£630,000 000) earlier this week.
Currently the free app allows you to share your customised phone snaps on Facebook, Twitter and Tumblr. Facebook chief executive, Mark Zuckerberg, has assured fans of the San Francisco photo-sharing service that despite the sale, it will continue to be available on rival social networking sites, adding: ‘Providing the best photo sharing experience is one reason why so many people love Facebook and we knew it would be worth bringing these two companies together.
‘We think the fact that Instagram is connected to other services beyond Facebook is an important part of the experience.’
Kevin Systrom, the CEO who founded Instagram only 15 months ago, said: ‘It’s important to be clear that Instagram is not going away. We’ll continue to add new features to the product and find new ways to create a better mobile photos experience.’
We predict photo’s in your Facebook newsfeed are about to get a whole lot better.
