Brazilian supermodel Gisele Bündchen, 30, has made some controversial comments in the September issue of the UK’s Harpers Bazaar magazine by saying there should be a worldwide law forcing mothers to breastfeed their babies for six months.Gisele, who meditated during her eight-hour long home labour to son Benjamin Rein in December 2009, has called for a ban on mothers feeding their babies formula milk. The world’s highest paid supermodel, who went back to swimwear modelling just six weeks after giving birth, said, "I think breastfeeding really helped (me keep my figure). Some people here (in the US) think they don't have to breastfeed, and I think 'Are you going to give chemical food to your child when they are so little?' I think there should be a worldwide law, in my opinion, that mothers should breastfeed their babies for six months."
Married to American football star Tom Brady, Gisele also did yoga three times a week to prepare for the birth, saying ‘it prepared me mentally and physically.’ She added, ‘it’s called ‘‘labour’’, not ‘‘holiday’’, for a reason and I knew that. You want to go into the most intense physical experience of your life unprepared? That doesn’t make sense to me. I wasn’t expecting someone else to get the baby out of me.’
What do you think of Gisele’s comments? Is she a role model or simply a smug mummy?
