If you're not travelling to South Africa to see the England team play, why not support the team by getting all your mates together and throwing a party. Spice up your party with a fancy dress code and some party games, and order pizza online to kick off the evening!
Adorn your Home
The downside of hosting a party is that, the next morning, your house will have a hangover too, and you're the one that has to take care of it. But you can save on washing up with disposable plates. Even better: there are lots of paper plates with a football theme these days, which will also add to the atmosphere. For the full effect, you can even combine themed plates with a grass green tablecloth. And when it comes to decorating the place: don't forget to hang the flag!
Bread and Games
The Romans already knew that you can't keep crowds happy with entertainment alone; you need to feed the masses. You don't have to spend ages in the kitchen to line your guests' stomachs. They'll understand you want to see the game too and don't mind at all if you order a freshly prepared, hot meal online. In fact, they might even appreciate delivered pizza better than your home cooked Colcannon or chicken madras!
The More the Merrier
No matter what the occasion, a party is always more fun when both sexes are involved. Cut out charming pictures of all players, paste them onto cardboard and attach a safety pin to the back. Before the game begins, everyone gets to choose which player they like best and want to support that night. Explain that every time there is a goal, there will be a quirky surprise for the person supporting that player.
Fancy Dress Code
Football isn't all about staring at your massive LCD screen whilst consuming large amounts of alcohol. It's about bonding with your mates and having a laugh together. So why not ask all the guests to dress to impress? To inspire your guests, let them know in advance that there will be a competitive element and the best outfit will be rewarded with a prize. The prize could be a real leather football, a cake that resembles a football or an extra drink.
Show off your party tricks during the break
Most footie fans like to use the break to go to the loo, but you will most likely have more guests than toilets so you'll have to think of a way to distract the other guests while waiting. This is the perfect moment to show off your football juggling skills and other party tricks. It doesn't hurt to practice before the party.
