A rundown of how Dr Hilary Jones runs his days when he has a slot on the GMTV couch...

FIRST THING

'I get up between 4.30am and 5.30am and drive to the studio in London or if we're doing an outside broadcast, I'll go to the location, which could be anywhere in the country.'

MORNING
'When I arrive on set, or at the location, I'll have a chat with the producer or researcher about what's coming up on the show. I usually cover about three subjects on a typical morning's programme. I'll talk to any guests who might be appearing in my slot and go over what we'll be discussing. Then it's on with the show!'

AFTER THE SHOW
'We generally have a production meeting about what's coming up on tomorrow's programme, and get on with any forward planning that needs to be done.I then spend some time writing articles - I have a column in News Of The World, and answer readers' health questions in the paper's Fabulous magazine. I'm also working on my next book, What's Up Doc? It's a collection of anecdotes about the weird and wonderful health problems people have approached me with - I'm thoroughly enjoying writing it, and it will be out in August this year. I'll often then do a radio interview. I'm a regular contributor to Steve Wright's Radio 2 show. He calls me 'his' doctor.'

AFTERNOON
'I'll usually grab a bite to eat and head down to the gym, go for a long swim or run, or play a game of squash. I try to do some kind of sport every other day - it energises me.'

EVENING
'I start to wind down. It's pretty much: eat dinner, chill, see the kids, then head for bed!'
