The-Good-Hour---cup-of-tea2If you're looking to escape the shackles of daily life and float away, even if for an hour or so, check yourself in at the Lush Spa, Chelsea, for The Good Hour treatment.

The 60/70 minute deep tissue, full body massage uses unique muscle release techniques, developed exclusively for Lush by acclaimed sports therapist, Gavin Morey. Though inspired by his studies with tribal witch doctors in The Solomon Islands, the massage is choreographed to rugged sea shanties.

Stepping into the treatment room, it's clear that this won't be a normal spa treatment. Eerie candlelit lanterns hang from the ceiling while the sound of waves gushing back and forth radiate from the sound system. And to maximise oceanic authenticity a mixture of dry ice with seaweed and sea salt – courtesy of Lush's Big Blue bath ballistic - is unleashed in the room. By the time you're relaxing on the bed, the only odd part of the experience is that the ship's cabin isn't swaying with the motion of the, albeit imaginary, waves.

The sea shanties chiming around the room are choreographed to match the pressure applied to the aching muscles. As you're taken out to high seas and the massage becomes more intense, the soundscape certainly leans towards the heave-ho and rugged side. Yet, there's no denying you end on a feeling of invigoration, the muscles having been stretched back and forth, as much as the ropes on the symbolic ship. And for those on the dubious side of the ship theme, the image of knots being unravelled holds true to the tension-free sensation you and your muscles leave the cabin with.

To add to the vigour of life at sea, once the massage is over your therapist will greet you with a cup of tea, splash of rum included. Though the pirate-esque experience is unique in itself, what sets it apart from other treatments is the ability to hand choose your products, from the Lush store, yourself. Interacting with the products beforehand helps you envision, firstly whether they will be suitable for your skin type, and also how you shape your post-massage feeling, from de-stressed to focused and energised. With gorgeous smells and zingy nutrients packed within each product, the choice surpasses stereotypical lavender and ylang ylang spa scents. Lush even lets you keep your leftover bar, though we're not sure how you'll recreate the sea shanties at home.
