It’s the conversation that makes most women squirm. Yes we’re talking about when your partner turns rounds and asks, ‘so how many people have you slept with?’ A recent survey has indicated that a third of women tell porkies when it comes to revealing their ‘special’ number – but why?

It’s widely assumed that men exaggerate their sexual conquests, while women play theirs down. According to the Journal of Sex Research, ladies lie about the amount of lovers they have had because ‘they are sensitive about being labelled 'sluts' or 'whores’'.

The average number of sexual partners is seven for women, and 13 for men. Yet 64% of women surveyed knock a few notches off their bedpost – half feel ‘ashamed’, while 19% are afraid of being seen as promiscuous.
