Bring me sunshine

If your man seems a bit a lacklustre in the bedroom department, it may be just a dose of sunshine that he needs.

According to an Austrian survey, testosterone is boosted by vitamin D and the bulk of this essential nutrient is made by the skin on exposure to sunlight.

Those men who had enough of the vitamin had more of male sex hormone than those who were deficient in the vitamin.

Interestingly all men surveyed had less of the vitamin and therefore testosterone levels in the winter months, with the lowest levels recorded in the month of March. Levels peaked in the summer, with the highest level of testosterone recorded in August.

Jessica Harris of Cancer Research UK said: ‘Enjoying the sun safely while taking care not to burn should help people strike a balance between making enough vitamin D and avoiding a higher risk of skin cancer. People can also top up their levels of vitamin D by eating more foods like oily fish such as salmon, trout or mackerel.’
