Why is it important to use natural or organic skincare products? Are they as effective as normal ones?

‘I believe that the use of naturally active ingredients – including botanicals, herbs, plant oils and vitamins – make a real difference to the health and radiance of your skin. That’s why at Liz Earle, we use over 100 botanicals throughout the Naturally Active Skincare range. Some of the most potent skincare ingredients are found in nature, including antioxidant vitamins, anti-bacterial essential oils and anti-inflammatory herbs.
‘In the majority of cases, I believe that natural ingredients offer better results for the skin than synthetic counterparts, because they work in harmony with the skin. For example, naturally sourced vitamin E (one of my favourite ingredients) is close to being three times more potent than the synthetic variety. I’ve been taking natural source vitamin E supplements for years because of its antioxidant properties – and that’s why I use the potent vitamin throughout my range.’
What’s particularly good about washing your face with a pure muslin cloth?

‘I truly believe that muslin cloths are the beauty industry’s unsung heroes! Removing your cleanser with a pure cotton muslin cloth makes your cleanser work harder, and it has the perfect texture to make the ideal deep-cleansing yet gently exfoliating skincare tool.
‘Used with circular massage movements, the fine texture of a muslin cloth helps dislodge dead, grey skin cells that make skin look drab, and helps keep your skin clear of blemishes and excess oil. Instantly lifting away impurities and make-up, your skin is left visibly clean, soft and radiant. Which skincare products would you recommend for adult acne? I have large pores and still get breakouts of blackheads and small whitehead pimples. My skin is oily, so I use facial wipes daily and a zinc exfoliating mask once or twice a week.

I use many of your products, which have given me the best skin I’ve ever had. I’m now trying to lose quite a bit of weight (that just won’t shift!) and see you’ve written extensively on food and diet. where would be the best place to start, in terms of a food plan, for me to achieve weight loss and great skin?

‘Personally, I don’t believe in dieting. Instead, I think the best way to eat – and certainly the way that suits me and my family – is along the lines of low-GI (glycaemic index) foods, to ensure my energy levels are sustained and my weight stays constant. A low-GI diet also helps feed your skin from within, and keeping your skin nourished is a must if you want it to be radiant and glowing.
‘Great skin feeders from a low-GI diet include a little protein in every meal, fresh fruits and vegetables, essential fatty acids, good grains and mixed nuts and seeds, which are a great source of energy and nutrients.
‘Don’t forget that exercise is imperative to help with any desired weight loss – I like to walk outdoors in the fresh air every day. This, combined with a balanced diet, should help you achieve healthy weight loss and great skin, too!’
