There are several foods out there that are known as 'super foods'. This is because they boost energy and also contribute to weight loss. Super foods have received quite a bit of attention lately, and we've listed a few of the more popular foods here.
There are some energy-boosting super foods that are somewhat obvious, since they have long been considered part of a healthy diet. These include kale, oats, and lentils.
Wheat is also a super food, and it can have very positive effects on the body. This is especially true for those who stay with whole wheat bread and rolls.
The goji berry is a super food that is taking the health world by storm. Some berries, such as blueberries, are even antioxidants. Other fruits and vegetables that have been acknowledged as super foods include apricots and spinach.
A somewhat surprising super food is steak – surprising because it is often seen as a food that hinders dieting. However, if it is consumed in moderation it offers an important burst of energy, largely due to protein. The steak is especially healthy if it is organic. For the protein content they offer, eggs are also considered a super food.
Certain super foods come with the bonus of improving heart health. One such super food is wild salmon. Wild salmon is packed with omega-3 fatty acids, which improve the body’s sensitivity to insulin. Thanks to this factor, wild salmon helps the body to shed its belly fat, as well as increase muscle mass. Of course, this allows the body to burn more calories. Trout and certain types of halibut are also considered to be super foods.
In the nut category, there are a couple of super foods that have been found to increase energy and encourage the progress of weight loss. One of these is the almond. Particularly in the morning, just a few almonds can boost your energy enough to get over that mid-morning hump. Walnuts have also been pointed to as a super food, and they can be included on salads or in desserts. The energy gained from walnuts stems from the potassium, iron, zinc and protein they contain.
Rice has long been a staple of the pantry, but in order to benefit from the properties of a super food, brown rice must be chosen over white. The benefit of rice is that it helps to make the stomach feel fuller for longer. Brown rice is a particularly suitable choice for those who have digestive issues, as well as those who suffer from acute stress.
