Absolutely Fabulous

ab-fab2After pronouncing that Ab Fab can never come back, it captured the zeitgeist of the Nineties a year ago, and script editor, Ruby Wax, is having to eat her words. After a 20 year hiatus, the programme is back for two Christmas specials. Die hard fans are waiting with baited breath.

So how will the bonkers world of the PR and magazine set have changed? And most importantly, what will our two fashionistas be wearing? There are nail-biting moments for viewers, as Eddy uses the famous stairs down to the basement kitchen as her platform to showcase her sky-scraper shoe boots. A distressed denim number also provides a treat for the eyes, with Eddy's mother stating the denim maxi (just one element of the all-denim ensemble) looks 'as though your jeans have exploded’.

Patsy is still Patsy – flaunting her signature power-house style of suit and ticking the classic stereotype of the mature fashion editor who has found the style that suits her and will stick to it until her dying day. Even if it does include a few joints stashed in the old beehive for good luck.

And what of Bubble, whose geek-chic girliness has now become a mainstay on the fashion circuit? New costume designer, Cressida Lewis, made it her mission to heighten the character's tweeness, hinting at flowers appliqued onto fantastic tank tops and layered socks. Determined no fan would be able to replicate the look, nothing was bought from the high street. Bubble's shoes were even hand-tailored by a fashion graduate. Surely that deserves top marks?

Though a hint of the visual flavours we can expect on Christmas Day, you'll have to tune in to see the rest. Just how will our favourite self-obsessed queens of disastrous fashion sense tackle the iPhone 4 and Twitter? With Eddy's new mantra, 'Blog it, flog it, tweet it' we can only imagine...
