Devil Wears Prada Sequel confirmed
The fashion pack are back, with a new novel by Lauren Weisberger set to hit bookshelves in 2013.
Say the title The Devil Wears Prada and most people will think of Meryl Streep and Anne Hathaway’s love-hate relationship in the film that hit the big screens in 2006. Behind the film’s fashion-based snipes and ill-advised footwear from Hathaway’s character Andy Sachs is actually a novel, and potentially a real life story, too.
Penned by Lauren Weisberger, who was once a second assistant to Anna Wintour, the editor of US Vogue, there are gross assumptions that the novel is more of a vamped up memoir from Weisberger’s Vogue days, than a purely fictional affair. Though the author has never affirmed such speculation, readers and film fans have not put paid to the fact Miranda Priestly’s formidable attributes could be akin to the forever shade-wearing and serious-looking Wintour.
Set to publish Revenge Wears Prada: The Devil Returns in April 2013, the sequel will revisit Andy eight years on from her rather memorable time at Runway, the fictional fashion magazine of book one. Now the editor of The Plunge, America’s biggest bridal magazine, according to Entertaiment Weekly, Andy is still working alongside Emily, her former nemesis-turned-friend at Runway. Though the title suggests a return of the ‘Devil’ Miranda Priestly, Weisberger is keeping her lips sealed regarding gritty details.
With the book not out until springtime next year, there has been no talk of a sequel film yet. With the original featuring cameo roles from models Heidi Klum and Gisele Bündchen, and designer Valentino, fashionistas are keeping their fingers crossed for another star-studded blockbuster. Bring back Meryl, we say.
