Being a celeb has its advantages but it still can’t guarantee everlasting love, as our recently separated twosomes show…
Jessica Biel and Justin Timberlake
When you’re as far up the A-list as Jessica, 29, and Justin, 30, you don’t just change your Facebook status to let people know you’ve split. Instead, you have a PR machine to do the job for you. And, in March, the not-so-surprising news was put out that the on-off pair had ‘mutually decided to part ways’.
Although they’d been dating since 2007, there were constant rumours of rifts and reconciliations. Then, in summer 2009, Justin was seen out and about with singer Rihanna, 23, sparking rumours that they were secretly dating. Now, post-split, there’s speculation that he’s involved with Mila Kunis, 27, his Friends With Benefits co-star. Since filming finished at the end of last year, Mila has ended her eight-year relationship with Home Alone star MacCaulay Culkin, 30.
Could it be a classic case of a mid-life crisis? Frasier star, Kelsey, 56, had been married to wife Camille, 42, for 14 years whenhe met 29-year-old British air stewardess Kayte Walsh, and told Camille he no longer wanted to be married. A fortnight after Kelsey’s divorce came through, he married Kayte at the Longacre Theater in New York.
Four years after their wedding (at Sudeley Castle and then in India), this April saw Liz, 46, and her entrepreneur ex Arun, 44, heading for the divorce court. Liz went public with the news that she and Arun were finished shortly after she’d been spotted in a passionate embrace with Aussie cricketer, Shane Warne, 41, whom she’s now reportedly dating.
The songstress and her music producer ex, who have a three- year-old son called Max, were divorced in April. With a pre-nup already in place, there were no wrangles over how to divide the spoils of their five-year marriage. And Christina, 30, seems to have moved on emotionally too, with 25-year-old boyfriend Matt Rutler now firmly by her side.
The relationship between the Crimewatch hunk and his Big Brother contestant girlfriend came to a very public end when the pair had a row in London’s Richmond Park. As Rav, 33, snarled and finger-pointed and Chantelle, 27, sobbed and cowered, the paps were having a field day. The less-than-happy ending was broadcast on Twitter – where else?
After five years of marriage, the Corrie actress, 28, and her property developer husband Matthew, 34, have called it a day. In a case of truth mirroring fiction, Samia is now dating her on-screen boyfriend, Will Thorp. Maria says she’s ‘head over heels’ for the 33-year-old, who also ended his marriage (to wife Samantha, mother of his two children), before Christmas.
There’s a real sense of déjà vu about this one. In February, Jude, 38, and Sienna, 29, once more called time on their relationship – but not before they’d splashed out a cool £8 million on a London property and were rumoured to be making plans to walk down the aisle! The pair, who were engaged in 2006, split up back then because Jude admitted to sleeping with his children’s nanny.
Fight for your love
Having been married for almost 20 years to husband Steve, Lorraine knows only too well how vital it is to keep working at your relationship. ‘I know it’s been said before, but it seems really true to me that you can’t take relationships for granted. You need to make time for one another regularly and ensure you have conversations and not just exchanges like, “we’ve run out of milk” or “the dog needs a walk”.’
