at home’s very own business expert, James Caan has been appointed as chairman of The Big Issue magazine, which helps homeless people.

The Dragons’ Den panellist and entrepreneur has been signed up to help bring the magazine into the digital age and stimulate corporate giving.

James is no stranger to philanthropy having established the James Caan Foundation in 2006, through which he has built a primary school in Lahore in Pakistan and has further plans to build more schools.

‘The Big Issue embodies my firm belief that we all need a helping hand sometimes,’ said James. ‘I identify with building something from nothing and the organisations principle of giving a hand up, rather than a hand out, resonates with me on many levels. What’s most remarkable about The Big Issue is its ability to work with homeless people without their dignity being sacrificed.’
