Simon Cowell is supporting The Katie Piper Foundation, a charity set up by burn victim Katie Piper, who was left scarred for life after her jealous ex-boyfriend raped her and arranged for another man to throw sulphuric acid on the young girl’s face in 2008.

Aspiring model Katie’s face was disfigured after the acid burnt through 4 layers of skin, as well as leaving her blind in one eye. Having undergone over 40 life-changing operations to re-construct her face, Katie has set up the charity organization to improve rehabilitation clinics for burns victims, as well as providing support for them.

“I want to empower people suffering from the same insecurities I had after being disfigured”, Katie says. “"I want the clinic to be a place where people can learn to overcome the psychological barriers of living with disfigurement and concentrate on rebuilding their lives."

Simon Cowell got in touch with Katie after seeing her documentary on Channel 4 last year, and said, “Katie is one of the most inspiring people I have met. She is brave, talented and determined and I think what she is doing with the Katie Piper Foundation is incredible."

The trustees of The Katie Piper Foundation include reconstructive surgeon Mohammed Jawad, who gave Katie her “face back”. Katie commented saying, “"I hope by sharing experiences the Katie Piper Foundation can help other disfigured people to build in confidence, to stand tall and feel beautiful too."
